Posi-News 3-8-07

Published by Andrea Silva under Uncategorized

There’s a PositiveSpace meeting tonight, Monday, April 9, 2007 at 7pm at Johnny Brenda’s!
Upcoming projects are discussed from 7-8 then chat it up from 8-9. I heard there’s a great show at 9pm too.

Thank you to the 13 people who showed up and to Keni, Becky & Amy welcome, welcome!

PHONE: We won’t answer. Due to the lack of incoming calls and expense, the Positive Space Phone is kaput. But you can always get in touch with us at Positivespacephila@gmail.com.

WEBSITE: Its been really fun seeing you all begin to create pages and blogs on the new website! Our website is here for active members to show their work on-line. (Active has usually meant you come to a majority of meetings and participate in at least 1 event per year.) It’s especially great for the techno-phobe who does not want to have a whole site, but just a page; or to link to your own site. Anyone can register and post. And we’ll try to put all the arts notices we receive up on the site.

Some of the chief things still on the table for the website are:
• We need a way to easily upload and edit pictures and create useful links to them on our page.
• The central image on the webpage is not great. We have talked about having artists work be shown there; that hasn’t happened yet.
• People are really all for or totally against the current theme. Nick would be happy to take any suggestions for a new theme and put them into a poll.
• Anyone who would like to have their access to the site enhanced, please let us know.

myspace.com/positivespace_phila Please feel free to become our friend. Otherwise I’m hoping someone will help manage the Myspace responses in the GMAIL account.

Arts & Crap 5.0 – Saturday, MAY 5th, 2007, 9am-2pm
(Rain date: Sat, May 12th)

So in march the Board unanimously voted hold a contest for the A & C 5 flyer via a website poll. This turned out to take longer then expected and we missed some of our own deadlines; but it all worked out exceedingly well. Ultimately, the votes pointed to a toss up between Keni Thomas and Andrea Silva’s designs; Andrea has moved to endorse Keni as the winner, and having his poster represent the Arts & Crap Sale as well as the purse for the contest.
Y-E-A-H Keni!

Andrea is working to bring all the past PR info to the next meeting
and Mike will create a distribution and marketing plan to coordinate
with the flyers to being circulated at the next meeting.

Brendan & David Talento is spearheading the music at this years event again.

Member & Art Promotions:
Dan Scholnik has picked up a Tablas gig at Café Spice, check him out

Mark Mothersbaugh’s Postcard Diaries
The visual art of Mark Mothersbaugh
founding member of music group DEVO.

These images began as postcards; personal assemblages and drawn images conjured and rendered between shows and soundchecks, often sent to friends and family while Mothersbaugh was on the road with DEVO. They were initially collected and displayed in solo presentations in the 80’s and 90’s, followed by the more recent and widely acclaimed exhibitions in 2003 Homefront Invasion! and the Visual Art of Mark Mothersbaugh tours which began in 2005.
